Something similar to Impreza diesel?

As the title says? Is there anything similar to an Impreza diesel? I bought an 09
and only had it 2 days before a plethora of problems caused by faulty EGR.

I'm due to get a refund so should have just under 7k to spend.

Whats out there around the same year, BHP, rear wheel drive, all wheel drive etc? I really liked the drive of the Impreza and would not fancy going back to something boring. I came from a diesel Vectra before that!

    Thanks in advance.

Quick enough and rare car. Just check with the seller if the timing chain has been changed as they were a major issue on diesel BMWs of that vintage.

I am watching those 123d for a while as I have wanted one for years. That particular one is for sale for AGES. May be nothing but I would wonder why.

I've had a Citroen C-Crosser for the past 6 & half years. Built by Mitsubishi in Osaka with the Citroen 2.2 HDI & Mitsubishi's 4 wheel drive system. It has been very reliable. Only major issue was DPF needed cleaning & DPF fluid install this year. Motor tax is a killer though but they can be bought very cheap.

It’s not remotely like an Impreza though.

It's originally a UK car. That may have something to do with it? I might ask for the UK reg. Do an mot check on it for mileage. The UK reg should be on the log book if I'm right?

The Impreza was just 150bhp but the allwheel drive made it feel very planted on the road.

Why do you think it being an original UK car explains why it hasn't sold?

    Seems a bit too cheap?

I have no idea to be honest, there are so little of them on these shores. A full history check could through up some interesting reading I'd imagine.

They're kinda on my radar now. Wonder how cheap they are in the UK?

8k would land you a nice 09/10 coupe

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 73,520 ✭✭✭✭colm_mcm

Oddly enough I don’t like the Coupe. Looks too narrow. Not sure how getting my son in and out of the back would fare out either.

They sold more 123d in coupe form than hatchbacks. Of the hatchbacks most 123d are 3 door. This would be one of the last ones before the newer F20 came out:

    https://www.autotrader.co.uk/classified/advert/201710270695403?onesearchad=Used&postcode=bt126aa&advertising-location=at_cars&model=1%20SERIES&sort=price-asc&body-type=Hatchback&make=BMW&aggregatedTrim=123d&radius=1500&page=3

Not sure if there is much savings in the UK but the choice would be better. E87 is pretty cramped too and wouldn't be as practical as your Civic Colm.

Oh yeah, I know they're tight in the back and the boot isn't great. Not a big fan of thev1 series but I'd make the exception for a 123

A lot of people just have a set against imports. I wouldn't myself but some do. "Sure the salt from the roads will have it ate"

Judging by the increasing number of second hand cars being imported here every year I'd say not many people are thinking that anymore. I'd see your "rust due to salt" UK second hand car and raise you "only serviced when due a NCT" Irish second hand car.

:D Fair enough. There is savings to be made definitely plus you get higher spec for less most of the time. Along with proper service history. Not just somebody gone mad with a stamper the day before you view it.
