FreeViewHD tuner - Saorview

Yes. DVB-T2 is backward compatible with DVB-T.

Depending on how you set up your TV in the country settings the Saorview stations will be 1, 2 or 801, 802. But most TVs allow you to renumber them anyway. Infact you will have to set it to UK to use the Freesat software.

The satellite stations and saorviews will not be combined in the one epg though. You will have to press a sequence of buttons to move between the saorview and satellite tuner.

That sounds grand to me. Using a Linux Combi box right now with enigma 2... All in all its shoite.

So a decent tv with inbuilt saorview and freesat tuner would be great.

It'll be a pain in the ar$e changing from saorview to freesat though....a standard combi box is far more satisfactory...if shoite. By the way, what's so shoite about the combi box??

It's one of those amiko alien junk boxes... Everything is slow and unresponsive.

I'd have to see how this saorview switch freesat is done before deciding how much of a pain it is... There's surely not that much involved between switching between the two.

I've never seen it so maybe there is... Would seem odd to me that the tv couldn't manage a single epg

    Amiko. Why didnt you say.

They are NOT a typical E2 box. Infact they are not E2 boxes at all and shouldnt be regarded as such.

They use hacked versions of E2 software to try and get them do stuff that was designed for another chipset.

They are typically low quality, low memory rubbish.

Get an E2 (MIPS) box. Night and day.

    any examples of these?

probably looking to buy a TV anyway so was thinking retiring the rubbish combi box and if the TV could do everything then bonus... don't need record or live pause functions.

    To record etc

Right now this is pretty tasty price and spec wise.

    https://www.world-of-satellite.co.uk/satellite-and-terrestrial/digital-receivers/formuler_/formuler_f1

Add the dvb-t tuner as the third tuner.

Use parcelmotel. postage is free to NI.

Interesting. That's pretty much a straight swap for what I've got (in terms of tuners)

That a big upgrade on the Amiko then?

I have an LG TV with Saorview and Freesat. To be honest it's a total PITA to change from terrestrial to satellite or back.

I just checked...it was on TV3 Terrestrial and I switched it to BBC1 Freesat. It took 14 keystrokes to just to change source from Terrestrial to Freesat....that doesn't include more if you need to change channel numbers when you get to Freesat...

I have a cheap Edision Optimuss Underline 3in1 that I got from freetv.ie (no connection). Cost about €60 and it does exactly what it says on the tin. You can record or pause if you plug a USB stick in...and it automatically lists all the channels...terrestrials from 1 up and satellite immediately after them. Much easier than pottering around for ages on the LG....in fact I'll probably get one to use instead of the button marathon on the LG...

I'll check out that box. Cheers.

Amiko were not designed to be E2 boxes.

The Minis had a 400MHZ CPU with a 64meg flash. So between trying to run something it shouldnt it also struggled with low spec components.

The CPU in the Formuler is 1300MHZ and has 512MB flash. Its not the best E2 box out there, but at the price, its excellent value.

You will see the difference between that and the Amiko alright!

There's a much easier way on LG Freesat TVs

Using the Home button, there's a "My Channels" or "My Programmes" in older models

Add any Saorview channel and when you are in Freesat mode add one of them

I have RTE One and BBC One HD added to "My Channels" so it's very easy to flick between the 2 services
