Hi, not great with cars, but could someone give me an idea as to how much it would cost to put a new timing belt in a VW Jetta, 2012 model?
I would be very grateful and thanks in advance

    To buy yourself...
    A belt is about 50.
A belt kit 100 to 200 which replaces tensioners and bearings.
A belt kit with water pump (recommended) is 170 to 300

But then you have to find someone to fit it.

Vw have an offer now for 13 reg and older to replace belt and pump using official parts for 450.

Yeah, any VW dealer will do supply and fit for €450. The retail price of the timing belt kit and water pump parts only at a dealer is around €175.

    Have you done 210,000 kms?

Thanks everyone. @ Toyotafanboi. Hubby is out in the car this evening, and yes, I think we have reached 210,000 mark.
A lot of travelling, as we live in the middle of nowhere! A lot of money, but if it must be done, so be it!

Not massive money when you think of it with the amount of use you get from a car.

my Polish friend summed it up well, he said ye Irish only fix things when they break, we replace parts routinely in our car

To be fair at 210k your car should have had 14 services, 1 timing belt change for 14 services is not bad going, some cars were 40-60k intervals not long ago :)

The 1.6/2.0TDI timing belt kit and water pump is a good bit more than €175 off VW even with full trade discount. The old 1.9TDI kit would be around that price alright but the OP’s car being 2012 will be either 1.6 or 2.0.

Sorry for the hijack, just a quick question.

I have a 2012 1.6 diesel Passat, 110,000 kilometres. Should I get the belt done or is it at 210,000 kilometres as mentioned above.

Some of the VW literature I've read is unclear/contradictory, thanks.

Searching the internets reveal different mileage intervals but the same time interval, 5 years. So it appears that you need to get it done.
