Hi Guys,l looking for suggestion for city break for couple in 30's in January. Into walking around seeing the sights and nice pubs for drinks in the evening. Have been to Edinburgh, Amsterdam, Prague all recently so somewhere other than there. Front runners at the minute are Berlin and Krakow

We were in Madrid last January and it ticks all your boxes. Stunning city, great restaurants and bars and cheap too.

Berlin is great, and one of my favourite cities.

Loved Budapest too and very cheap.

Another on my been to and loved it list is Barcelona.

Krakow is a fantastic place and one I would highly recommend!

Other places that you might consider that are equally as nice and a good fit for what you are looking for are Budapest, Rome or Vienna.

    Another vote for Berlin.

Transport system amazing so you can cover lots in a few days. Nazis/Cold War/stunning museums/music/value for money...........

Also recommend Madrid - It will be a bit warmer as well.

Krakow is excellent - would also suggest Budapest or Lisbon.

If you want somewhere a bit warmer, Seville is an awesome city. Lots to see and it seemed to have a pretty active nightlife scene as well.

Definitely Madrid or Berlin. Great mix of culture and nightlife/restaurants. Palma nice for a long weekend.

Berlin is great but likely to be really really cold in January, all that wind coming from Siberia!

Berlin and krakow will be quite cold in January.

Rome is a great city to visit that time of year as the crowds of tourists are well down. Also it's a great time of the year to visit the Amalfi Coast. Oranges growing on trees and the bay of Naples is a sight to behold on a January morning.

Personally, I don't rate Madrid at all.

I'd opt for Berlin, Cologne or a French city like Lyon.

    Budapest 100%

If you want somewhere quirky , Heidelberg in Germany

Was in Lyon last month. No comparison with Madrid either visually or socially. Significantly more expensive too. Would go back to Madrid, can't say the same for Lyon.

Lyon is very beautiful with a quirky character, friendly locals, great museums (especially for those with an interest in the birth/early days of European cinema).
Madrid has some charms (great new metro, some impressive buildings) but as a major capital, it pales in comparison to the likes of London, Berlin and Paris for me.
