Learner permit application question

I have kind of stupid question which got me confused. I will be applying for learner permit and have to fill D201 form, and it asks if I need to wear glasses or lenses for driving? And that's a yes. I wear glasses front of computer, when I drive car in my home country (and it's marked like that in my own country issued driver license), just only not at outside because I don't like it's style.

I got appointment for Eyesight report form and had the usual eye tests, and the woman there said that "you don't have to wear glasses when you drive a car but I would recommend you to wear it", which makes sense.

She gave me the form and marked "Needs to wear corrective lenses to meet the standard set out overleaf" as No.

I am kind of confused if I should tick this box on Learner permit form as I think it will create a conflict with the eyesight report form. I am well aware of the importance and I am not trying to evade something or do something illegal.

My eyes are -1.5 and -1.0 , I am nearsighted.

Your optometrist has declared that you don't need to wear glasses in order to achieve the required eyesight standard for driving in the EU. A recommendation to wear glasses is not the same as an instruction. This means that you are quite entitled to answer the question on the D201 as 'No' and this is supported by the eyesight report and the '01' notation will not appear on your learner permit.

That would then mean that if you forget your glasses one day out in the car, you are not breaking the law by driving without them even if you're more comfortable wearing them.

Having said that, you are free to ignore the optometrist's declaration of 'No' and 'self declare' that you need glasses to drive and the optometrist's declaration will be overruled by your self declaration and your permit will contain the '01' notation. The eyesight report still exists to declare that you meet the required standard for driving even if you disagreed over the legal need to wear glasses.

If you tick the 'yes' box, you permit/licence will have a numerical code added to indicate that you require glasses/lenses. If you are stopped by a Garda and asked for your permit/licence, the code will indicate to the Garda that you require corrective lenses to drive (and if you are not wearing them, they may ask why not).

As you wear them anyway, it shouldn't really matter but personally I'd tick the 'no' box if I met the legal requirement.
