Amazon Account Issue

Dunno if I'm posting in the right forum,
    But here goes,
I received random emails from account-update@amazon.com yesterday/this morning but I ignored them as I assumed they were spam.
The last one I got confirmed my account email was changed to zhuiyadou85@163.com,
And now I can't log onto my account, via the app or on my browser, I get the above email flashing up briefly in the login box before my own one appears.
My problem is I now can't get in touch with amazon as I have to log in to do so and I'm getting the message my email account is not recognised, therefore I can't log in.
Can anyone offer any help or a contact no. for Amazon Ireland/UK?
    Thanks,
Mods, please move if I'm not in the right forum.

The emails you received should have a link saying "click here if this wasnt you" or something to that effect.

There was nothing like that on the emails, hence why I thought it was spam.

3 customer service reps later and still none the wiser, thay won't do anything until they can login to my account, which is my issue in the first place.
The last lady suggested I just open up a new account.
I would delete my account fully and leave it at that if I could.
Can anyone give me a heads up on why this is happening, has my emails been hacked?

Most likely. Change all your passwords (if this happened you probably reused your Amazon on another weaker service).

I have changed my email passwords and some others, it is possible I reused a similar password from another site.
I am keeping an eye on the credit card linked to my Amazon account, I have contacted the supplier but they can't block just one vendor.

Should you be receiving emails from amazon.com? Are you signed up to the US site?

Check the emails again. They could be dodgy. Did you sign in through any links in those emails?

Were you addressed by name (or the part of your email before the @) or was it just 'Dear Amazon Customer' or something generic like that?

Have you tired the forgot password link?

Cancel the card and get a new one, it is not a major issue. If you know the card is compromised and do nothing about it, technically, the credit card company can hold you liable for any losses incurred.

I have the CC company informed but I need the use of the card this weekend so I can't cancel it till Sunday at the earliest.

I first got an email to say my password was changed, another email to say the email address associated with the account was changed, so now I'm well and truly locked out.

I'm a bit taken aback at how bad the customer service is with Amazon, the representatives I was dealing with couldn't help me whatsoever.

I use the same login for Amazon.co.uk and amazon.com, I just assumed the one account done both?
I haven't signed in with any links on any of the emails I got. In fact I had deleted them as I assumed they were spam.

Yeah, the one account can log into all of the Amazon sites. fr, de, es, it, in, jp, uk, com etc.

Did you follow the amazon link that the poster above linked to on reddit? Amazon Account & Login Issues Tell them your account has been hacked. Give them your email address, give them the new email address of the hacker (the @163.com address above). They'll sort it for you pretty quickly.

Have you checked all of your devices for malware/viruses by the way?

Did you use the same email address and password on any site in the last 5 or so years that you know may have been victim of hacking? There have been a fair few over the years.

I only use my iPhone for Amazon, I'm not aware of any way of checking it out for these?

It's quite possible a similar password was used on a different site with the same email address but I haven't heard of any sites I use being hacked.
That's not to say they weren't, and I just never heard about it.

Looks like they had access to your email for the verification code?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,625 ✭✭✭wmpdd3

Yes, they must have had access to your email, change your password to email immediately.

This site is very good. Just enter your username or email address and it'll tell you if it has been found on a list of breaches.

Hi, I just got the same email this morning (saying my email address has been changed for Amazon) and now I can't access my account. Does anyone have contact info for Amazon or who should I contact? Should I be cancelling my credit card immediately? What did you do to get sorted M7roadrunner?

I was a customer with Amazon but that all changed Jan 2017. I checked my credit card after Christmas and Amazon had charged over £600 to my card.Try to check my Amazon account but was told I had wrong password. I contacted Amazon and was told the charge was a sellers fee for an imac I had sold. I told Amazon I didn't have a sellers account but they wouldn't believe me. Was given the run a round by Amazon for 4 months and in the end I had to ask my credit card company to do a charge back. I had to supply my credit card company copies of all email contact with Amazon and details of all phone contacts I had. Got money back from credit card company but because charge was in sterling I got hit for around €50 in conversion charge that the credit card company would not refund. From what I could make out someone got into my Amazon account, changed my password and set up a sellers account using my details. Cancelled my credit card and my Amazon account but still occasionally receive emails from Amazon advising me on how to improve my sales. I have to say that Amazon customer service was the worst customer service I have ever dealt with.

Used them for 4 or 5 years without any problems. Have returned items to them and received refunds no problem but none were for amounts over €100.
