I am looking for other peoples experience in these circumstances>
My son was working in London for 3 years but moved to Donegal in September
he has been looking for jobs since then in Donegal/northern ireland with no success

at the moment he is living rent free in friends house, when he went to claim JB he was told he couldnt as he had no proof of residence

does this sound correct?? will he have to rent in his own name to claim and then look for rent support?

He was probably told he needs to prove residency.

Theres also a link to the page but this is the main things they look for and yes it does include a tenancy -
Proof to show you have given up accommodation abroad
Proof that you have cancelled or applied to cancel any non-transferable benefits
Proof you have transferred or applied to transfer any transferable income
Proof to show measures you have put in place to open a bank account here
Proof to show you have a tenancy in your own name (in Ireland)
Proof of travel documents including, where relevant, excess baggage fees and removal/shipping receipts

Tell your son to get onto revenue with his address then request a statement of tax credits or something.

That will serve as proof of residence.

If he has no other proof of residence then he can ask his host to write a letter stating that he is a indefinite guest in his house.
This might be acceptable to the CWO if the host also provides proof of residency( copy of the rent book, utility bill in his name).
