Two friends have diesel ones and one of them doesn't give an ounce of trouble but the other is nothing but trouble. They've a bad reputation. Personally I wouldn't buy one

High tax, drink diesel so not a good selling point.

You need to do some online digging others including myself have voiced the issues with them so if you're set on buying be sure work has been done on them and full service history would be a must.

Why that particular car? You could go with the 250 and it would save you money over the long run with repair bills and they aren't that much worse on fuel.
The tax is your only sticky bit but not that much more than the 2.2
To put this into perspective, we have this exact diesel engine in our Toyota and in 1 year of driving it has given not 1 bit of bother.
    Nothing.
But it's fuel consumption is ridiculous, I just can't get it below 8.5 mixed no matter what I do.
The punto diesel that it replaced was around 5.5 mixed and with a slightly smaller tank.
Don't think just cause it's a diesel you'll get mega miles out of a tank.
