Would you not it a descent lock instead?

Yes I have a good lock, but the ultimate would be a GPS tracker

    https://www.sherlock.bike/en/device-app/
this uses a sim card and gps ,
I think you,d need to buy credit for the sim otherwise the sim will
be disabled after a few months.

i think it works like the find my phone iphone app .
Obviously you,ll need the app to use the device and a smartphone.
my experience is a good strong chain lock and a good padlock will stop
    most bike thefts .
And park the bike in a busy street near shops with security camera,s.
I cycle around dublin ,every week i see broken bike locks ,lying on the ground
the ones from the pound shops .
They are easily broken and useless .
You cant buy a good lock for 4 euro.

The usefulness of a tracker is limited.

Even if you find out where it is, you then either have to deal with the lovely people who are keeping it or call AGS and try and coax them to come with you, not always an easy task.

Prevention is the best approach, dont park it anywhere dodge.

Should it not be hidden in the bike frame?

im not drilling my bike frame!
its a novelty, if my bikes gets stolen i have a slightly better chance than if it wasnt there.

I'd recommend two or three locks, not one, far more effective

Seesense lights include a “theft detection” feature. No monthly fee and they’re pretty good lights too.

I seen that in an ad but wondered, would someon not just nick the light or take it off? How well is it stuck on?

Those aren’t so useful on the way up though.

steal the light and/or the bike, either way the owner will get notified via the phone app.

I wonder if anyone is developing trackers that use wireless charging so that you can really bury them somewhere awkward in the bike without having to take them out/alter the bike to charge?

There has to be a point where it's just too much work for them to remove and won't bother or won't notice and will get caught.
