Would failure in an early NCT attemp (voluntary inspection) invalidate current NCT?

So here's the deal. My car has NCT until Aug'18. I want to fix a couple of things (brake calipers etc). But before doing that, I want to make sure there isn't any clangers there that makes fixing things pointless. This car is new to me so I don't know a hell of a lot about it yet, but it's in great nick generally.

So the question is, can I put it through NCT and cough up the 55 quid for the inspection, so that I can have piece of mind that there's nothing else that they may disagree with in their roller-coaster inspection before putting money into the car? If I do that, and if it fails the inspection, would the current cert still be vailid until Aug 18 or would it become invalidated? I am assuming the answer would be yes, it will still be valid, but just to be sure.

Unless it’s a fail-dangerous I think the original cert is still valid.
