Petrol or diesel Ford Focus

    Hey,

So I'm going to change my car in Jan / Feb and likely going with a 2016 Ford Focus. I currently drive 20km to work on M50 and drive Dublin to Cork once or twice a month so I'm roughly driving 16000km per year on motor ways and 4000km non motorway

Am I better off saving money on the purchase price of the car by buying Petrol? I'm trying to take into account the unknowns about residual value of a diesel car in 4 or 5 years time.

Also a few petrol focus seem to be 1 litre. Is that not very underpowered for a car that size or have engines come a long way since I bought my last car?

    Thanks in advance

I'd say petrol considering your mileage.

The 1.0 Ecoboost is an impressive engine and well up to the task - go for the 125bhp version. It's quicker than the older 1.6l petrol.

Is that a total of 20,000 Km per year?

At 20,000 Km you will save €400 on fuel with a diesel

If you are going for the petrol, as @Henry Ford III says, go for the 125PS.
I have driven the 125PS Civic and it's perfectly adequately powered. The 100PS Focus looks a little sluggish

Appears to be some known issues with the 1lt ecoboost engines from what I have read.....

There is a Facebook page - Ford Focus Ecoboost 1.0L Turbo Zetec Faulty Coolant Pipe Engine Head Gasket

Also heard some Fiesta owners have same issues.

Not sure how big an issue or how many people affected but well worth reading up/exploring further just to be aware if considering the 1lt.
