I am looking for something that can remotely switch on/off a socket. Either over the phone (mobile) or the net. And possibly if I am abroad.

TP-Link have a smart plug controlled by wi-fi app on smartphone. Available with power monitoring option if required. In powercity and Woodies. Woodies cheaper at the moment.
