Forestry gate mesh or not.

Planting some oak trees and need to put up a new gate. What type of gate is best with mesh or without. I prefer a mesh gate as it keeps people from climbing over it and keeps out dogs etc.Someone else says its better to have a gate without mesh. What do most people use ? Another issue is the storing of log cuttings i dont want to have them near the house as i think they would be ideal homes for rats. Has anyone ever seen this happen with cuttings. Thanks
