    Hi,

What are the rules for handicaps for 15 hole comps?

My previous club it was 5/6 of your handicap.

My current club you just lose the shots for the holes that are out.

The holes most commonly out are index 8,11,17 or 17,14,9) which means anyone of 7 or less rarely loses a shot.

    Seems unfair>?

It is what it is. In Athlone when they reduce the course to 15 holes, the holes that usually go are 16,17 and 18. indexes 1,17 & 5.

As someone who has been a 5/6 handicapper for the past 10 years I dont complain too much. it is what it is. I still win well over the winter because I back myself as a good golfer and I enjoy the challenge.

In Athlone, the stableford comps are play it as you see it

We also run turkey comps over the winter which are playing as strokeplay - They are run by taking 5/6 of your handicap

It's winter non qualifying golf so the club decides the rules and they're more than likely different from club to club. We don't make changes to handicaps and just play it as it is.

Imagine if it was for a 9 hole competition and the 9 holes that were out were index 1-9 i.e any one off 9 or less would have no shots, think you'd see the rules change quickly.

9 holes, 1/2 handicap, 9 hole card with 1-9 index

15 holes 5/6th handicap, 15 hole card with 1-15 index

Any other way someone is coming up with rules to suit themselves.

We do 15 18 ths of your handicap and if that works out at say 12 then you have shots on the 12 hardest holes of the 15 you play.

It can be skewed alright if you just play the indexes as they are. But its just not worth the trouble trying to get them evenly distributed with an alternate index. Handicap secs have better things to be doing.

No adjustments in Moate either. We're playing over 12 holes this winter (was 13) but it's always been take your shots wherever you can get them. Whatever holes are in play are in play and that's it.

we play 14 holes and always adjust handicaps

of course the indexes are also adjusted and there is a specific 14 hole card

IMO it doesn't really make sense not to adjust.

We will play 14 or 15 holes but over different layouts through the winter.

You take 14 or 15/18ths of your handicap rounded (=X) and apply it to the lowest X indices in play.

The computer sorts it out for the mathematically challenged.

If we were to apply the shots where they fell, the whingeing would be of biblical proportions. The sense of entitlement with handicaps........

    Oh and it's always stableford......
