    Hi

My daughter was extolling coconut paste instead of tooth paste. I googled it but was bombarded with alternative health remedies.

Are there any dentistry professionals here who would be able to speak about it?

    Thanks

I appreciate that you took the time to reply. My point may have been missed. I'm not asking if toothpaste is good or not. I'm asking if any dental professionals have scientific information on using coconut paste.

Rather than reading a scientific paper - let's be honest, you get articles extolling the virtues of anything& everything these days, & the use of coconut paste is often part of an overall lifestyle choice- why not conduct an experiment.
Buy a pack of plaque disclosing tablets in the chemist; they cost maybe €3. Divide the number of tablets in the pack by two. Use the coconut paste 50% of the time, & regular Colgate or Oral B toothpaste for the other 50%. Record/time how long it takes each material to remove the plaque. (Obviously use the same toothbrush for both). Compare& contrast over the course of a fortnight or so. Whichever is more efficient& most effective at helping remove plaque, is the better one. If coconut paste is less effective, at least you'll know you need to allow more time to clean mechanically.

Coconut paste contains a small but significant of carbohydrates and a ton of fats. I would not recommend brushing your teeth with food stuffs that can feed the bacteria.
