Aerial Signal Strength in North Dublin

Apologies if this type of question has been asked before (I'm sure it has, but can't seem to find a solution). I bought a Ferguson Ariva 253 Combo Receiver box last week and I've been trying to set it up.

I've a satellite dish and aerial set up outside on the second floor of the house, and the free to air uk channels come in grand. But the saorview signal isn't great, like the picture comes in but freezes frequently. I'm based in North Dublin and checked up the saorview website to point the aerial in the right direction (south), but it doesn't seem to be making much of a difference. Figured it might be something wrong with the cable connecting to the aerial, but even testing with another short cable with the aerial in the room the picture is unwatchable.

Anybody have any ideas on what I could try next? I'm reluctant to get someone to call out to the house to fix it if it's just a small issue.

You mentioned the cable: are you sure you're making the connections properly?

Maybe post a pic. if you're unsure.

Also, what's the specific type aerial you're using?

    That's the aerial there: https://www.powercity.ie/?par=30-72-LP20FH

I have the cable connected it right, but looking at it now the connections on the cable do look a bit old. Reckon it might be worth getting a new cable to test it?

Old connections: that aerial has an f-connector fitted, so is it a cable from the satellite dish you're re-using?

When the aerial is outside, does it have its own separate cable all the way to the box or are you combining with the satellite signal?

Yes, it has it's own separate cable all the way to the box (not combined with the satellite)

Right, well obviously I've no way of judging the condition of your cable or connections.

Of course, there are other reasons you wouldn't be getting a satisfactory signal. That aerial is fairly low-gain &, I assume it's not that high above ground level, although it's looking at 2 high powered, high site transmitters.

Can you check the channel nos./frequencies you're getting Saorview on? Presumably you just auto scanned, & I'd say you picked up 2 sets anyway (Kippure & Three Rock.)

Also there are at least no visible obstructions where the aerial is pointing, like trees or buildings?

Thanks for the help. I used the auto scan to get in the channels, but I think the issue is probably to do with the aerial placement and cable connections. I decided to give saorview a call and they gave me a guy's number to come out & fix it so hopefully that will clear things up
