Overfilled the oil Toyota Avensis 1.8

Hi, I have overfilled the oil in my Toyota Avensis 1.8 2005. About one CM over the Max on the dipstick. Engine is cold. I think its 0.5 liter, or something, over.

The engine uses oil, so it will come good eventually, but is there an issue to drive like this?

    Will it damage the engine?

What could be the ramifications of overfilling the oil?

    Thanks

If the oil level goes up and makes contact with the crank you'll be in big trouble. That being said I wouldn't know how much over the max but I would say its definitely not worth taking the risk. Buy a cheap oil pump and you'll have it pumped out in 5 minutes though the top of the engine. Then you still have the oil also to top it up at a later time.

    Why is that?

    Thanks.

If you're stuck, find any small pipe that fit down the dipstick and suck out the oil in little bits. Don't suck it all in obviously ;)

If ya have a piece of flexi tube to fit down the dipstick tube with one of those soap dispenser pumps on the end

The crankshaft will churn the oil which will cause the oil to froth, This makes it more difficult to pump, and provides less coverage so you'd be more likely to starve the engine of oil, That said a nip down to the childminders isnt going to wreck it, but i wouldnt put it on the long finger either.

^^^ that's a pretty novel idea. Does it generate enough suction pressure though I wonder?

Always overfill mine by that much to save topping up. No problems.

Im sure it would if car was left running for 30 seconds or so to warm it, some of those soaps can be pretty viscous.

I wouldn't worry about it unless it's quite a bit over, those VVTi engines are very robust and they'll burn it all off eventually anyway!

1 cm over the max mark on the dipstick is absolutely no problem in that 1.8 vvti engine. Leave it be. As you said, it burns a drop so it'll be down its going.
