Heard these ads on the radio and we finally have a company offering multi car insurance for individuals. No idea if they are competitive or services, but hopefully it'll make more companies offer multi car policies.

"Traditionally drivers are told that you can’t insure more than one car. Not anymore. We reward individuals with two, three or more cars. We also specialise in providing cover for families with two cars or where the kids are looking to get on the road."

Crazy that this is new and revolutionary in the Irish Car Insurance industry.

Honest to God this country can be so backwards sometimes.

I remember having an AUDI TT as a second/weekend car and the absolute hassle I went through to get insured on it was unbelievable i nearly gave up on it.

The whole concept of , god forbid, wanting to own a second car seemed completely perplexing to Mary on the other end of the phone.

I've had 2 cars insured, it wasn't really any more hassle to get the second car insured over the first. Multiple bikes too, that's easier for sure.

If I remember, Admiral multi car insurance in the Uk trumpeted their offering as being brand new and that can't have been much more than 10 years ago and they offer a discount, not sure if they mirror the NCB or not

    So hardly that backward

I had two cars for many many years, I started with a small 1.0i Citroen AX for a year to get started and once I had 1yr NCB on that car I bought something better. I never had any claims in that time and had 7 yrs on the second policy when I let it lapse as I got married, got a mortgage blah blah blah.

If I were able to afford a second car again I'd do it the same way as previous, start with something cheap to ensure and work from there. I don't see what difference it makes that I have another car and it should in fact split the risk and therefore decrease it but irish insurance companies being the most retarded backward ignorant greedy bastards ever means that everything is reversed.

If it’s a insured only driver case on multi cars with same insurer was always available!!

Sure u can’t drive 2 cars with 1 ass thus only 1 third party risk ( only 1 crash possible)

If you choose to add another driver then risk changes as 2 crashes could occur etc

I was able to insure 2 cars ago with Kenco and then they stopped doing it.
I had to switch to Axa then as they were the only ones providing the service.

It has always been possible, but the price was not worth it. I'd like to see some quotes on this before getting excited

What's the advantage of two cars on one policy vs two separate policies?

If I was the insurer I might think 'the higher the renewal price the more likely they are to shop around". Two cars on one policy => higher renewal quote

Might this be handy for car+classic/RV types?

There are classic policies in the market that would substantially cheaper than even the cheapest market offering.

They are offering a multi car discount - not a multi car policy as far as I can see.

Insurers offer discounts if you have 2 cars with them - Aviva off the top of my head so it's not a new thing.

    Hi all,

I thought that this was to be a panacea also. Absolute waste of time.

Insurer refused to quote for a 2007 407 coupe as standard car and a Honda CRV 2006 as occasional car. Said that the criteria I failed to meet was that my 2nd car wasn't high-end. An utter and pure joke.

Straight from the horse's mouth: -

"For the second low mileage vehicle I was told that, “Our second limited mileage car is generally aimed at high end vehicles rather than a second family car product.” I explained to them that it wasn’t going to be used as a family car but they insisted that the vehicle didn’t meet their criteria as the product was aimed at more high end vehicles such Mercedes, Audis, etc."

Very disappointing folks, I'm sure you'll agree. I wouldn't even bother ringing if I were you.

I'll be trying to get an NCB mirrored wherever I can.

45 years old, government job, no penalty points, no crashes, NO FAMILY.

I rang them for a quote on my Audi ... wouldn't quote me because It's a 3.0 litre car and my wife is under 30 years of age.

They are simply acting as brokers for AXA so not really offering anything new.

To be fair though, the guy I dealt with over the phone was very nice and tried to be as helpful as possible but juts a case of "computer says no" ..

It's worth giving them a ring ... but don't get your hopes up
