seen as there's a tread on flechvieh, it got me reminiscing on MRI's.
what ever happened to them? We had a few when we were miking 25years ago.
they were the next big thing if i remember correctly, stubborn as hell tho, would have made decent sucklers.

They're called MRI because it's the type of scan you should get for even considering breeding them.

What was wrong with them? Looking at photos of them i'm fairly sure we had one of them, was red & white dairy breeding anyway. Bred three lovely limo heifers which we kept, down to her last grand-daughter now at 10yrs old.

We were ahead of our time and crossed the entire holstein herd with MRI stock bulls. Bred lovely quiet low sized cows that were great to hold body condition. But as stated no milk and solids not that exciting. Pity Jerseys weren't being championed when we made the jump!

We did the same. Low quota volume/acre so beef was important as well. Luckily I used RWN across the entire herd for 2 years before he died and we used make a fortune with yearling bulls in spring. They had savage conformation but they would have to be held till they were yearlings before it really showed up. I stopped when we started getting access to quota and had to sell the bulls as calves. They didn't show up as anything out of the ordinary as calves, unforunately.

Crossed all the heifers with MAU, serious cows for fertility and solids but the volumes just weren't there.

Edit: I think there is a breeder in South Kerry still but sucking afaik?
