NY Bar help!!!

    Hi all,

Hoping that someone can assist with the following query.

Long story short, I have an Irish law degree. have spent thousands and thousands on prep courses, flights, hotels, exam fees etc studying for the NY bar over the past few years. Sat the exam a few times, always very close to passing but keep missing out.

Have a very hectic work schedule and also travel a lot for work so haven't been able to dedicate as much study time for exam as I would have liked - until now.

Applied on 1st Nov to sit exam in Feb next year, was told I needed to provide all college transcripts etc again!! And also noted the following rule as part of the foreign evaluation requirement:

"Submit Proof of fulfilment of the educational requirements for admission to the practice of law in (your) country"

I.e provide proof of admission to the Irish Bar etc OR

proof that you have met all the educational requirements for admission to practise law in your country.

And, all this must come from directly from the issuing institution (kings Inns/ Blackhall place).

In the past, all that was required was proof of your law degree, my interpretation of the above rule is that NOW you must either be a qualified lawyer here or have passed every exam required to be admitted as a lawyer here.

Needless to say, I am finding this very difficult to swallow. If I wanted to be a barrister here I would have done that in the first place!!! Just wondering if there is anyone out there / anyone you know who has sat the NY bar this year/ last year who did not pass the bar here or who managed to find a way around this rule.

    Thanks, appreciate all the replies.
