Are the plugin Wi-Fi extenders any good? My router is in my hall and I want o try and address the following issues:
    - poor Wi-Fi coverage in my son's room
    - I want to move their Xbox into their room and was looking at connecting it to a plugin with an Ethernet
    - I want to move a home cctv dvr to my room and connect it yt? O another plug so I an view cctv output on a phone.

Is this possible to do using the likes of tp link extenders? If so do you have any recommendations? Is their a better solution to overcome the 3 issues?

Get a set of homeplugs with Wi-Fi access point built in. Like these which have 3 ports allowing you to plug in the Xbox and whatever else

I use them and, generally speaking have no complaints. I use both TP-Link and Zyxel. If anything, I find the TP-Link ones to be a bit flaky compared to the Zyxel, but that is in a fairly convoluted setup (2 cascading fuseboards off the main one). In the house, they work great, so long as you accept that the stated plug ratings are waaaayy over what you will actually achieve in most settings.

However, with the more recent ones that claim 600 Mbps per channel, you ought to be well able to do what you need to do, and using the Wired Ethernet port as well as WiFi on a Wireless extender ought to work wonders in locations that cant get a signal at all at the moment.

I use the one in the link below, but I bought cheaper than the price below in eir store. it works fine no problems.
Just keep an eye on the speed it takes if you have fast broadband
