Have the FANG companies made much money from you this year?

    Facebook
    Amazon
    Netflix
    Google

These 4 companies are credited with raking in gazillions much to the detriment of the traditional oldschool real-life based companies. Amazon is by itself credited with creating a retail apocalypse in the States

While I haven't paid any of them directly and don't even have accounts with any of them that I actually use the robots in Facebook and Google probably have some personal information on me and made money out of mining it since personal information is now the most valuable commodity although I have no idea how much they could potentially make from someone who isn't actively signed up to them.

Have you given them much money this year? Or do you plan to when the dreaded cyber monday/black friday nonsense gets foisted upon us again at the end of this month?

    Toys 'R Us went broke.
I avoid Amazon and Facebook. What is Netflix?

Advertising. If you have a FB account and other people look at it your page will be plastered with ads and they have marketing partners who will pay for your personal data or the ability to market to you.

Even if you click a google ad by mistake there's a chance they made a few quid off that one click (Google per-click priced ads can be very expensive)

I don't think I've bought anything off Amazon this year. I use someone else's Netflix. I have Gmail and a Facebook account, but have never paid money to either.

Not a shopper, but had go to Dundrum shopping centre today and its booming so the retail apocalypse seems to have passed us by.

or Blanchardstowan shopping centre is even worse full of people who live to consume and use their leisure time to dress up go shopping and eat in chain restaurants.

Amazon: probably €500 over the course of the year in various items. Have the Prime trial, am considering keeping it.
Netflix: I bought a €25 gift card a while ago to open an account, and will probably continue using it periodically.
Google & Facebook: €0 personal outlay, and as little as I can manage via data mining— I use as many ad and tracking blockers as I can, and and limit my usage of their services as much as possible.

I don't mind paying for things, but I really object to my personal data being collected and sold.

It's not coming out of my bank account.

google can plaster ads as far and wide as they like - I don't see them. I've not seen an ad on boards for example for years.

    Facebook
    Amazon
    Netflix
    Google

    Fb: Don’t use.
Amazon: Probably spend €200 this year.
    Netflix: Don’t use.
Google: No idea what they’ve made from me, but no cash directly from me anyway.

    Here's a tip

When you can't figure what an online service is selling , they are selling you.
