Illness benefit

I recently under went surgery on my ear and was out of work for two weeks. I claimed illness benefit for the time I missed. As there is no payment for the first six days I only received one payment of €193. I returned to work last week and received my payslip yesterday. The €193 has been deducted from my wages. Is this normal? Rather than pay me for the week they just gave me a lend till I earned again?

It's taxable benefit check your pay slip it may be thereto include it to calculate the tax you owe or your employer may deduct it from your regular pay

Do you get paid if you are out sick?

So you got paid while you were out sick ? If so I think it’s normal enough for your employer to deduct the 193 from your wages.
If the only money you got was the 193 for the week off I don’t see how your employer could take that back off you.

I worked 4.5 hours on the Monday and had my surgery on the Tuesday, I claimed from the Tuesday. The first week I got paid €117, €63 of this I got as tax back because I earned so little. The second week I received nothing from work.

How much of your basic wage are you down for being out sick for 2 weeks

Was the €193 paid into your employer's bank account or into yours?

Unless they were paid it, they shouldn't be deducting it from you.

I would usually get paid about €550 a week after tax. So with what I got for the Monday and the €193 from benefits, I'm down about €800 for the two weeks.

Actually I'm paying the €193 back so make that €1000

Ok so on further inspection of my payslip I see that I missed the part where they added the 193 to my payslip and took it away again. With over time and production and holiday pay for the bank holiday I missed it and only seen the deduction. Thanks for all your comments on this and I'm sorry for wasting your time.
