Tail light bulb warning. Are your lights at the back working ok?

Don't forget to check the rear fog light and number plate lights are working too.

Careful, some cars use redundancy lighting in the case of bulb failure, ie they substitute another light instead of the blown one.
possibly using the brake bulb at a dimmer setting as a tail light.

Yea the Bmw's have that alright. If you lose say, your left front low beam it will light up the left front indicator until you change the bulb. In some cases the bulbs are actually working but it's a dodgy lamp holder that pops on the dash light.

Interesting alright. This occurs on mine, but just when the lights are off. Only got it recently, so wasn't sure if it was from a sensor prompting me to put my lights on, as it's been dim or dark when I've been driving it.

Cheers for replies. Just had a proper check there, 2 tail lights, number plate lights and brake lights are fine but I press the button for fogs only 1 lights up

Hopefully that'll work when I replace it. I don't get why the driver side light comes on randomly tho. All driver side rear lights are working

I'm a bit confused about this. Turned put it was a tail light bulb that needed changing so changed it and the warning light went off.

I had bright white lights in front but yellow parkers so decided I'd put in white Parker bulbs , since I put them in now I'm getting 2 warning for the front and the opposite side on the back ??

Also when I turn the lights off the parkers stay lit ?

    Any ideas ?

Are they Led as they may throw up a canbus error.

You can get ones that are compatible with your car.

You need to replace rear passenger side brake/tail light.

Check as some use double filament bulbs but your type use the single type if I remember right.

You would be best getting new bulbs all around and should be fine.

Back centre ones look like water has got in at some point.

Also the rear lights look way too bright for ordinary side light function.

    Check correct bulbs are fitted.

Ya I replaced the back passenger one a d now I'm getting a warning for back driver side even tho it's ok.

Do you mean replace every bulb front and back ?

I'm not sure if there led or not , Il attach a pic.

I took them out again seeing as they won't go off with lights and car off

Those bulbs looks like led and therefore theyll throw a fault as they have little to no resistance. This is how the car sees a blown bulb. As mentioned you can get compatible LEDs but I'd just buy the normal bulb.

Also, I think one rear fog light is the norm on those cars, that's the way they came so it's probably not that. Few people have mentioned that the car will use another bulb to compensate for a blown bulb so watch for that as it may not be obvious. Also some of the light funtions can use more than one bulb, again making everything look fine at a glance.

    Hope that helps.

Just went back and swapped them for blue non led bulbs and seems to be fine now , No warning lights. But the rear driver side comes on now and again.

Where would be the best place to buy bright white Parker bulbs because it doesn't look great with the dims white and the parkers blue ha

Looks fine to me, mine does that when VTEC kicks in :D

Joke aside, check your wires, might be some corrosion in there.

Check the bulb holder. Make sure it is clean and you have a good tight fit.
Check both sides as a poor connection on one bulb can throw up a fault indication on the opposite one.

As I said I believe you have the wrong type bulbs fitted on the rear, usually the 2 inner lights either side of reg shouldn't be lit under normal set up, the outer side lights which should be 5watt when lit for night time and go to 21 watt for brake light function.

You need to make sure bulbs are correct pin type and as I mentioned I believe they only have one filament to do both 5 watt and 21 watt.

So on the rear outer light cluster there should be 2 bulbs illuminated on both sides and then when brakes are applied the furthest bull to side of car is the brake light.

The picture of 5 watt wedge type were LED and will cause error.
Older cars this wasn't an issue.

Phillips do a blue type one which gives out a very white light for a 5 watt wedge(also known as parking light)

Punished 5112. Thanks for that info Il check them out there and make sure they are correct bulbs.

Was onto fk performance for white bulbs, so the ones I need are 5w wedge non leds?

You can get LED but you need to make sure they are canbus error free.

Also while checking the rears, the red light above the indicator on either side should work as the brake light, what I said previous is the next model up.

I see some have the inner 2 lit like yours and others don't.

Speaking of bulbs , would you know where I could buy the white spot light bulbs for my car and parker ones ? I can't seem to find them any where online

    Are you talking about xenon's?

You shouldn't have fogs on so no need to mess with bulbs as in foggy conditions the very white light can throw up more light which in turn creates a bit more obstruction of view.
