I'm not sure if there's a thread on this yet?

I stopped to charge my leaf at Castlebellingham and noticed a fenced off area in the carpark next to the standard FCP.

Very impressed to see a row of Superchargers, pic attached.

    Are there any others around?

    Exciting stuff!

Castlebellingham in Louth? That's a pleasant surprise if so. As far as I was aware their current plans for superchargers were Enfield, Birdhill and Lisburn aswell as the one already open in Ballacolla.

Those chargers are dangerously close to curb, can see passat with tow bar reversing nicely into one of those

Yep Louth, stopped on the way to Dundalk on Saturday, they look awesome. Need a P100D now haha!

Haha, I suppose we'll have to wait and see, but sure it won't take long for the first dent!

Can I plug a Nissan Leaf into these Tesla chargers, at all, even with an adapter or different cable?

    Nope.

So, that Applegreen will be able to charge 1 Leaf and 7 Teslas. That's a smart way to influence an EV purchasing decision.

It's Tesla rolling out its own charging infrastructure.

Nothing to do with general EV use.

They are completely out of sync to the parking spaces, Surley tesla owners heads arent that big that they need a wider parking space?

Welcome to the forum B-D-P--, probably best not to start off by insulting other users.
Id say the wider spaces speak more to the hardware involved in supplying 120kw of power than the attributes of the end user.

Once more the Tesla is showing how to properly build the infrastructure. As a matter of fact as a semi regular user of Castlebellingham this new installation finally made the penny drop and I'm trying to figure out a way to make the numbers work for a CPO Model S after drooling over them for years.

Never was really a fan of Tesla myself but these super-chargers definitely peaks my interest. Started also now to look at CPO Teslas.

A man is rich in proportion to the number of things which he can afford to let alone.

Yea, it will be easier for you to do man maths if you currently drive an ICE. Unfortunately for us we already drive an EV so buying a Model S won't really reduce the monthly running cost, will it. But I'm thinking that if I got rid of my motorbike which I haven't used for months... :-)

You can man math your way to a CPO if you assume you buy a normal new PCP white goods ICE car and spend 300-400 a month on fuel (like I would in an ICE).

This is what I'm trying to do at the moment lol. As are, it seems, half of the forum!

Why would a passat be anywhere near it, is the real question.

Why not wait til its completed before whining?

I saw a half finished house yesterday - no roof on it. Sure they'll be cold and wet if they sleep upstairs. :P

That's because they are no longer just parking spaces anymore. Think of them like petrol pumps. Petrol pumps spaces are not your typical supermarket car park width are they? In addition Model S and X are quite wide cars and could do with the extra width.

I asked the ESB about this as Tesla's have been using ESB's chargers...

    reply...

The Tesla Chargers are not part of our infrastructure so we are not able to comment whether Nissan Leafs are able to charge at the Tesla CP’s. We advise that you contact your Vehicle Manufacturer (Nissan) for clarification.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 22,733 ✭✭✭✭ELM327

Nissan leafs cannot use the Tesla chargers as there is no agreement between the manufacturer and therefore even if the plug fit with an adapter, it would fail the protocol handshake.

The tesla proprietary charger protocol is rumoured to be quite close to Chademo (based only on online speculation) so I'd imagine if Tesla allowed it it would be technically possible. But you can't realistically expect teslas to allow other EV to use their own network and electricity for free?

Teslas use ESB chargers for free at present and will probably do so in the future.

Even if there was a fee for charging at a Tesla charger I'd pay it for the convenience.

ALL EV use the ESB chargers for free currently.
These are for all EV to use, unrestricted.

Regardless of whether or not you want to pay, Tesla will not allow others to use their infrastructure without the other OEM paying for the use.
