    Hi,

I have the Denon PMA-720AE amp (which obvs I bought from Richersounds a couple of years ago) and am looking at upgrading my CD player. Currently using an old denon 3 cd player that does the job.

    Anyway, my question is this.

Is it better to buy the companion piece for the Denon amp, or purchase the marantz cd6006 which gets all the love online? Is this denon/marantz pairing good/bad, what do you recommend?

    Thanks in advance.
    Eoghan

    Hi Eoghan,

I'm not sure if you are looking at changing both the CD and your amp as you mention PM6006 in the title and CD6006 in the body of your post?

But whilst the Denon PMA720 is a bit unloved in the press but its actually a really good amplifier and I really dont think that changing to a PM6006 is going to give you a great step-up in audio quality ( in fact if you are into your bottom end the PMA720 may actually sound better as it has quite a rounded sound whilst the PM6006 is a little harsher / more accurate - I'd keep my Denon amp and instead upgrade and go for the revised version of the CD6006.

The CD6006 will pair really well with your PMA720 and will sound radically better than your Denon 300 - its really in digital / D/A converters that the real advances are happening - but its which CD6006! There is a new UK tuned version thats miles better than the standard CD6006:

The bad news is that they are as scarce as hens teeth and also more expensive than the standard CD6006, but its worth saving and waiting for!

The CD6006 UK Edition is now £449 but I can do a Boardie special at £399 on it if you were interested..

    Thanks and keep us posted,

    Hi John,

Thanks for the quick reply. I wasn’t going to change the amp. These silly number versions always mix me up. Is the The CD6006 UK Edition you mention the more expensive better one, and do you happen to have it in black?

    Thanks,

    Eoghan

    Hi Eoghan.

Yeah the special edition is the more expensive one and we have it in stock in both Black and Silver finished.

Thanks Kenny. Would be interested in getting this. How much for that + the Q Acoustics 3050 delivered to Dublin?
