I have to respond to a government department. The envelope received has postage prepaid.

Can I just return/respond to sender using the same envelope?

Any letter I have to send to a govt department, I just write FREEPOST under the title, as in below. Never had any issues.

    Department of Boards
    FREEPOST
    7 Govt Street
    Dublin 1

If p = cardinality of the set of postal messages sent by the govt.
    Then from An Post perspective p≠ p + 1

"Not Known At Address. Please Rtn To Sender" usually works for me.

I save myself the hassle of responding to official letters by using them unopened as an accelerant for the fire.
