New shoes. Should I return?

Got my first pair of cycling shoes with a carbon sole (Shimano RP5) from Wiggle. Opened the box and found the shoes as pictured. Both shoes have the same marks.

Not too bothered about the signs of previous cleat fitting but the adhesive-like texture is weird.

Any thoughts on whether this is usual for carbon soles?

The textured bit is standard on many shoes. I wouldn't be too worried about the cleat marks, more hassle than its worth to return them. Maybe send a pic to Wiggle - they might give you a voucher or something...

Yeah, I'm looking around and found a couple of unboxing videos of the same shoes. They have the same texture profile. I'll hold onto them.

They are the replacement for the R088 (which I have). They feel solid and comfortable but I don't think they're quite as robustly made as the older model.

After about 5 minutes on the bike, you're going to mark them more than that. I guess someone else tried them and sent them back, but that's par for the course with online shopping (indeed, you'd not buy shoes in a shoe shop without trying them on, and assuming others had tried them on before you).
