Advice needed - where to now?

I have been getting lessons for a year.. on average 2 one hour sessions a month.
I then bought a car.. but I literally can't drive it..it has a bigger engine (not huge). I live alone in the city and don't know anyone who can accompany me. I don't have an instructor at the moment as she is now retired. Also nervous about getting on as I have been through 3..but the 3rd one I stayed with for 9 months.

Having done an intensive driving course about 10 months ago I wonder is there any point in going back? Should I keep getting lessons even though I am getting no where?

All advice welcome.. I really feel so down about the whole thing... it's cost me sooooo much money

    Thanks in advance

Why are you leaving lessons so far apart.

Could you not try get 2 lessons in a week at least.

You need to get an instructor that will do what you need.

My sister used church town school of motoring and found them very good.

    Where are you based?
Have you insured the car and big enge in what way??

I reckon you can drive now and by that I mean you can work the controls. It's all about practice now and getting out twice a month is not enough. Is there no one who will go out with you for an hour here and there? Someone you work with or someone in college? Any older neighbours who can drive and offer to drive them to the shop so they can have a break.

This might sound a bit daft but tell the instructor you are a nervous driver and ask him/her to take you on a few long, easy drives to build your confidence.
So rather than focusing on challenging test routes, just learn to relax a little and enjoy driving, get to know your car, even take in the scenery. Watch the road further ahead and i guess be aware of how much safer it is when you're really aware of your surroundings rather than being in panic mode trying to remember 10 things at once.
When you're more confident and comfortable you can move on to busier roads with multiple lanes, roundabouts, parked cars, etc... even practice a few hill starts and reversing round corners. I think for the moment you just need to get back into it, but without the stress.

What's this no where? The car you've got parked up gathering dust? Forget about it being there for now.

You need to get some more time with an instructor again. Who can assess what you are doing and advise you accordingly.

Also... don't be too concerned with your car having a bigger engine. After having a couple of ferocious 1.8l petrol cars, I feel learners need experience in something larger. There's no need for the fear mongering that is prevalent about them. They'll do the same as any 1l car.

I'd echo what others have said. Get more lessons more often. At least once a week. Ask your new instructor to let you use your own car after the first couple of lessons in the dual control. Practise, practise, practise. It's the only way.

And don't even think of the bigger engine. It's a non issue. You just haven't had time to get used to the new car yet.

Thanks- I looked them up. I see they charge 45e per hour which is the most expensive I have seen but worth a shot.

I didn't realise they were that expensive to be honest.

There are plenty of Indy types also.
