I need to get a DPR filter for a 2009 Volvo S40 1.6 Diesel. its been gone a while, the engine system light has been on but no real affect on driving.  Just need to get a new one before the car conks out on me. NCT due in February too. I have tried everything to clean out the tank, but the chip is gone and the computer needs either overriding, or a new filter and sensor replaced.  Will cost a fortune to get this done in a Volvo garage, Im looking for help on where I could get this done in Dublin a bit cheaper?

Get it removed and the car remapped.

350 plus VAT for a genuine Volvo DPF isn't the end of the world. It is an exchange part (surcharge is 200 plus VAT),so you would have to return your old unit to get a refund.
Any mechanic can change it for you,but it isn't a 20 minute job.

Also what chip is gone and why the ECU needs an "override"?

Given that DPF removal is soon going to be an MOT failure in the UK, doing a delete doesn't strike me as the wisest course of action in case they decide to do something similar here.

It already is an mot failure and has been for quite some time.

Cars with gutted DPF’s still pass as they cannot tell if it has been removed or not.

Lastly, ireland is always a good few years behind the UK, so all facts taken into consideration, id have little worry about the NCT

It's only a visual check at the moment (just take the filter out and then weld it up and it's a pass), but from next year they will have updated emissions monitoring equipment which is claimed will be able to detect whether the DPF is actually doing its job and it will be an MOT fail if it can't pass.

It's also a criminal offence to drive a car with the DPF knowingly removed (impossible to prove at present I fully accept).

why not take out the DPF and wash it out. I have a Mazda 3 with the same engine and DPF. I took it out and flushed a high volume of water through it. I did this 8 months ago and the car has been running fine since.
