Boiler trouble

Hi all, my boiler is making an awful clanking noise when it goes off. It's fine when it is on but when it goes off it makes loud noises. Like the pipes are banging together. And it lasts for about 10 to 15 seconds. It's so loud that it wakes my kids. The gauge black needle is at 0.4 when cold. Is that normal? Should I bleed the rads? Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks
