Freesat tv

I currently have a Sony tv with both terrestrial and sat inputs, no auto loading of the sat epg, due to it being encrypted, and Sony not doing any freesat tv's.

    Anyway...

Looking at getting a Samsung freesat tv, for a family member, does anyone here have experience of them.

    Any pitfalls?
Can they record one sat chan, while u watch another channel be it sat or terrestrial ?

Functionality will depend on the model number. Personally, unless its going on a wall and you want minimum clutter, I'd go for a Freesat box instead. Freesat TVs are horribly expensive

Sony did have good support for Sat TV via an app, showing full EPG, until they knobbled the software and made it virtually useless.

I'm of the opinion that they should get a seperate stb, and I'll try and convince then, but they saw my setup and liked the no clutter look.

But I rarely watch live tv, I stream most content, and the built in sat tuner wasn't know to us when we picked our tv.

Im looking for a TV that will get Freesat (built in sat tuner) and also terrestrial saorview.

Went to Currys but guy there wasnt convincing (he told me they all would get Freesat but I didnt believe him!)

    Online Currys TVs have the following descriptions;

    1. Irish Digital Ready & Irish Digital Ready HD
    2. Digital Tuner
    3. TVPlus
    4. Saorview Approved
    5. Irish Digital Ready & Irish Digital Ready HD with Saorview Play
    6. Twin Irish Digital Ready with YouView

I assume 4 above won't get Freesat, but what about the others? Thanks

See what Freesat TVs are available here - https://www.freesat.co.uk/get-freesat/televisions/

When setting up the TV, UK will have to used as the install country to activate Freesat Doing this will probably store the Irish channels in the 800s by default but generally they can be resorted into a location of your choice.

Looks like it doesn't handle satellite at all, never mind Freesat.
If you post the model number I can check the specs.

Check out the LG range in Power City. I bought LG 43UJ63 4k.It handles all satellites, with a full 7day EPG on Hotbird and Astra1 and free 4k channels

How do you access the satellite tuner and vice versa, ie how many button presses to get there.

You have to switch between Soarview and Satellite mode .The program manager and choose the mode you want. It's a two-stage move, as for the recording I haven,t tried it recording anything yet. I walker Saorview pvr box and Humax HD Freesat pvr.

There's a much easier way on LG Freesat TVs

Using the Home button, there's a "My Channels" or "My Programmes" in older models

Add any Saorview channel and when you are in Freesat mode add one of them

I have RTE One and BBC One HD added to "My Channels" so it's very easy to flick between the 2 services

I've had poor experiences with LG tv's in the past, and have vowed never to buy an LG tv

Does anyone knows if the new LGs (or any tv with freesat and saorview) can record a freesat channels (for example BBC1) and watch a second one? whether this second one is Freesat or Saorview? Can you record a program by selecting it on the epg for both (Freesator Saorview) ? and pause rewind live tv (Freesator Saorview)?

    thanks

To have that full functionality the tv would have to have 2 satellite and 2 terrestrial tuners.
E.g. on saorview to watch rte1 while recording rte2 you need 2 tuners in your box or tv.
    The same applies to freesat.
There are exceptions where you can view other channels while recording another but you wouldn't be able to do it for all channels.

You are nearly better buying boxes supported by Saorview or Freesat as manufacturers of tvs have no interest in keeping the software on them updated.

E.g. I bought a tv last year that had the Now tv app on it. I am now being told that the app isn't supported anymore by Now tv.

Most LG TVs only have 1 satellite input on them. Only the very high-end models have 2 so you can watch one channel while recording another

Some Samsung TVs have 2 satellite inputs

Worth checking in the future before hand

    Have 55in Freesat/saorview model.
Messy to switch from Saorview to Freesat Or vice versa.
Very unreliable recording - lost count of number of times its failed to record vital episodes!
Samsung email support useless - "ring support" or "check manual". Eventually stopped replying to my emails!
Only continue to use because of what it cost, but will buy cheapo next time to go with my Foxsat PVR - never again will I buy Samsung.
