    Hi

Just wondering about the ford focus warranty and what it covers and what it doesn't.

    Have a 2013 focus with 87k kms

There is significant water ingress in the boot and passengers side front and rear foorwell after rain.

Rang Ford dealership and said its not covered after 2 years.

Looked up ford 5 year warranty and cant find any reference to this example covered or not

Lots of articles on the net about this in cars caused mainly by pollen filter not sealed or problem with a/c

    Any advice really appreciated

In 2013 the Ford warranty was 2 years I think.

Extended 3 years with ford protect

    Hi op,

I have the exact same problem with my 2013 focus. I found this thread on the net and just this weekend (hopefully) fixed the leak.

Just waiting on a few wet days to see if it worked!

    http://www.fordownersclub.com/forums/topic/70704-possible-mk3-boot-leak/?page=4

It was an easy enough fix in the end.

Thanks for that. Did you not see if ford covered it under warranty

I didn’t think of it. I bought it second hand and it’s an import. They prob would have told me to bugger off.

Am gonna try ford this week. Surely its a manufacturing defect with the car with lots of examples in the link you posted. They should stand over it.

I agree with you. The older focus leaked too but for a different reason.

Let us know how you get on with Ford. I’m interested to see what they say to you.

I know they'll tell me to get lost but if that is what's causing it i have other examples of it now. Cheers again

    Any update?

Sorry for the late reply. Ford said they would cover half the cost of the repair. The leak was coming from a roof joint. Ford Europe wanted to see my fsh including all part numbers used during services. They wouldn't accept liability but offered gesture of goodwill.

Rang simi and they wanted me to fill in application form to make complaint against peugot dealer i bought car from 2 years ago which was a joke.

I could have pursued it further but it could have dragged on for ages.

Total cost was 400 and ford dealer had it 2 days so to pay 200 wasn't too bad

Making a complaint against the Peugeot dealer you bought it from would have been bad form and a bit useless imo, but definitely a sign of the times that we are in, where it has to be someone's fault, never your own.

Sure they didn't build the car, they didn't break the car, they didn't sell it knowingly with a fault and they did put a warranty on it and you didn't bring the issue to light (or the car didn't faulter) within it.

I think that was a good result for you however, that was a reasonable goodwill gesture from Ford and goes to show that there is some value in maintaining a dealer history.

So true TFB and fair play to the op for recognizing what a joke that complaint would have been. Such logic can be rare in the motor industry.

Half that paid by Ford is a good result there imo.

Absolutely. I rang the Peugeot dealer in Limerick and explained the situation and tbf he was sound about it, he knew it was all bs and advised me to take the offer.
If i took it further it would be difficult to prove that it was a manufacturing defect and the warranty doesn't cover weather strips.

Ford in cork were ok to deal with until they wanted the exact details of every part number used by non ford garages for servicing.

Wtf has the type of oil filter used got to do with a roof joint.

Just like insurance companies any way not to pay out.

It's interesting that the source of the leak seems to be different from the common place of the vents behind the bumper.

At any rate, glad you got a result.

You're right the mechanical of the parts have nothing to do with one another.

What they are assessing (as I'm sure you know) is how much money you have spent with them in the past, now you are coming to them with your hand out looking for goodwill, which is fair I suppose as a good customer of the brand will be looked after and one who isn't, doesn't.

    Cheers for all the advice.

The ford dealer and ford ireland came straight out at the start that it wasn't covered under warranty.

Just goes to show don't always accept them on their word at first when it comes to warranty and be ready to argue
