Was just here this evening watching Thor:Ragnarok.. Film was great but couldn't believe how shabby and dirty the cinema has become in general. Ripped seats, walls discoloured with dirt and generally untidy, not to mention the state of the toilets. I find it very sad that it is so bad as i enjoy frequent trips to the cinema and have always been a fan of the IMC/Omniplex over the Eye cinema. Anyone else notice this?

You've pretty much summed up the state of the Ward/Anderson cinemas in Ireland for the last half century

You should have seen it before the refurbishing.

Saw Bladerunner 2049 in the Galaxy and have to say it was really Comfortable. Not sure if it was just because it was a long film or not but there were no ads or previews run beforehand which was awesome. The movie actually started straight away on-time. i'd definitely pay extra every time for that.

Been going on a regular basis since they opened in '93 but dont recall it being so grubby. Galactic is nice from a seat perspective but the owners do need to pump some money into the rest of the place

That cinema is a joke. They clearly don't give a fiddlers about it, heating constantly broken, barely any staff, torn carpets and generally run down looking, the place is just begging to be closed.

Even if I'm in Oranmore now we always bypass it and go into the Eye or the IMC in town. Why bother gambling with the Oranmore cinema. Will the heating be working? Will there be more than one staff member? Will there be a problem with the projector?

The IMC in town is pretty OK I think, but I'm nearly always only in the main screen (s) so maybe some of the smaller ones are like what you've described.

IMC at the retail park is a kip
stopped going there a while now
galactic screen is a rip off and some of the crowd they attract always talking at the back

eye cinema is ran and better kept. With the bonus people going there stfu when the film is on - if they don't they kicked out when brought to the attention of staff.
    experience better all round.

Agree, but have had my fair share of frequent phone checkers, in Eye, ask politely to stop - woah, some do not take that too well. I wish they had staff in there. I would 100% pay extra for a zero tolerant showing. No talking/phones/screen ads.

I find there's no real difference in the behaviour who attend either cinema - I've sat in completely silent screens and talk filled lunatic asylums in both places. It's more to do with what time the screening is at, how busy it is, what type of film is it, etc.

I agree that the IMC is a bit more battered around the edges than The Eye, but that wouldn't necessarily put me off. What would sometimes make me choose The Eye over it is the sometimes poor quality audio or murky projection, particularly on the smaller screens. Though maybe they've cleaned up their act lately; it's been a while since I saw a film there that was noticably sub-par in the presentation department, but for a while it was chronic.

I'll give them their due though - that occasional treat of them starting a film bang on time, without any ads or trailers beforehand, is damn satisfying. I'm sure a lot of it is down to people not being that bothered and forgetting - it tends to happen a lot if you go anything after 11PM - but it's a practice I endorse most heartily.

As an ex cinema employee (not in Galway) the reason the late screenings are rushed is because we all want to go home.

    This too shall pass.

I don’t know if it’s still possible in the digital age but during college I worked in a cinema and covered projectionists holidays.

The late shows on Friday and Saturday always started on time i.e. if the ads were 5 minutes long the projector started rolling 5 mins before show time
