Bench Warrant

Got arrested a few weeks ago and got bail to appear in court. I read the sheet wrong and thought I was in court this week but turns out I should have been there last week.

I got a message from the Garda who arrested me that there was a bench warrant issued and to contact him. When I called back he wasn't on duty but told he'd be back in tonight. I'm going to go down and see him tonight as he was decent enough to me and want to get it sorted out.

Is getting a bench warrant serious? Can I get charged with something else forit if it was a genuine mistake>

Usually it will be agreed to meet the Garda at the court to be arrested. Then explain to judge and get new bail. Would be advised to have a solicitor instructed.

It is usually treated as minor issue once the court accepts you made a genuine error.

Thanks - was just looking to get an idea of what to expect when I go down - meeting up at court seems alright. I just don't want to make things any worse

You may spend some time inside the cell at the courthouse while waiting to be called before the judge.

I image you'll get off without much hassle as it's a genuine mistake

Usually not, as in most DC’s they deal with custody cases first thing.

Things work a little different inside Dublin than out. There is also the possibility of an estreatment warrant being issued for the amount of bail you singed for.

I'm in Dublin. Was meant to be in court at the CCJ at the Phoebix Park. How is it different?

I've no idea what a estreqtment warrant is.
