Accents on Google keyboard

    Anyone know how to enable these? I used to be able to type letter accents by long pressing a key and each accent would come up. Now when I try to do it, I only get a capital letter.

    I've tried going in to Settings/language input/keyboards and toggling on/off long press for symbols and it doesn't seem to work.

    Also I enabled Irish as an extra language (since English does not have accents) to see if it would make a difference but no...

    It's really odd, it wasn't working this morning but now it is not!

    Any ideas?


    Edit: it's randomly started working again....
