Help Needed - PC randomly going into standby

So I built a very nice gaming rig earlier this year and all has been going well up until a week ago.

What's happening is the fans get loud, the computer goes into almost a standby state with the video card (a GTX 1080) flashing red and white.

Now this is happening right as I start up in cases so don't think it's due to overheating or anything.

What steps should I be taking to figure out the problem? It's a very expensive setup so want to be sure I'm going about things in the right way so would greatly appreciate any advice on what to do.

Need more specs of system.

I was going to say overheating but if it is happened straight away maybe not but don't rule that out completely yet.

Have you onboard graphics if so remove the 1080 and run off the iGPU and see if the issue is still there. If everything is fine then there is a problem with the 1080 and if the issue is still there then the problem is else where.

I do have onboard graphics so will give that a shot.

No you do not have onboard graphics, you have the output there in case you install a APU in the CPU socket.

Do you know anybody with a GPU you could borrow to test in your system and they test your GPU in their system.

Tbh the problem could be anything going by your discription of problem. It could be a bad stick of RAM, bad CPU, bad GPU, motherboard etc...

Do you still have the motherboard manual or download it and see if it has a onboard diagnostic LED as I doubt it has a diagnostic LCD as it is not a premium board. And then see what the readout is as sometimes they can say it is a bad GPU or RAM etc...

Ah okay, thanks a million for the help. I have all the manuals etc so will take a look and see. I can borrow a GPU from a friend also so can try that tomorrow.
