    Hi All,

Help required. I'm trying to setup Android Auto in my Superb. (2017 Superb Combi). Phone is a Galaxy S6 Edge.

Checking the compatibility on the Skoda site, I know they work together. However in the Android Auto menu on the car infotainment display, no mobile devices are displaying even though my phone has the Android Auto app enabled and running. Connected to the car via Bluetooth.

Do you have to physically connect the phone via USB? Is there a way to do this wireless?

    Thanks,

    P.

It needs to be connected via wire to the car.

Download the android auto app to your phone and follow the instructions.

Best if you launch app and then connect with a usb cable
I have it in my Octavia and it's great but can be buggy from time to time and would love it could connect wirelessly.
Speech recognition is very good too on it

I think android auto look awful.
    I dont bother with it.

Thanks all. Hooked it up via cable (which in itself rules out actually using it for me) and I wasn't massively impressed. I find the native functionality in the car cleaner and easier to use.

Would consider using it more if it was wireless but no interest in hooking it up each time.

The best use of android auto is for Google maps vs what VAG pre install the cars with which isn't great.

Maybe it's different for Skoda but in our Golf you can connect an android phone wirelessly you only need a cable connection for Apple.

I had a bit of trouble with Android Auto on my Golf in the beginning, had it plugged in with USB and set up correctly but if I selected Android Auto on the infotainment screen or pressed 'allow access' on the phone it wouldn't link. Android Auto launches automatically when connected to Bluetooth, but I don't think it works without USB also.

Just plugged it in and let it be. It can be a pain to unplug the phone to send a text when parked, I could just send the text with the Volkswagen Phone menu though or probably use voice with Google (I know Google asks if you want to reply, not sure about sending a new message)

Having Google Maps on the screen is by far one of the most useful features I use. I just wish I could change the voice to the American one. It seems to be a problem on the Huawei P9. Can't stand the UK voice for navigation, although it reads my texts in the US voice...

On another note, Spotify doesn't play a lot of my playlists at all for some reason. Every song is available offline, but on Android Auto it won't play them...

How do you get it on the screen wirelessly?

If the car has WiFi you can connect with that.

Never tried that, just look at it. Didn't think you could get it connected without a wire.

I have it on my Peugeot 508sw, I dont see the point at all except for live traffic through google maps. I have a lot more functions on the native screen

Depends what you currently have I suppose.

For me I have previous gen Skoda radio which has not the nicest interface and pretty limited function.

With Android Auto I get superior mapping which is connected to my Google activity, meaning I can pin places on my PC or phone and they'll show up in car, along with recent places and suggestions. If you ask it to navigate to the nearest supermarket it will find it and tell you the closing times etc.

Play Music is great to play any song you can think of. And you can now choose alternative audio players. One of them is a Radio app which gives you access to limitless radio stations. I was able to listen to a GAA match broadcast on a local radio station in one county while driving round the opposite side of the country. I'm sure there's plenty of other apps to, e.g. stream podcasts etc.

All of the above controllable by voice too.

How does it actually work? I can access Google search via WiFi but can't get android auto going.

Oops, I read back in 2016 they were introducing wireless support over WiFi for Android Auto but looks like they are still working on it. A recent article says it will work over WiFi direct which your unit will have to support.

Sorry, I just assumed it would be available by now.
