Would someone explain this question to me please.

A number of people were asked which of the 3 papers - The Journal (J), The News (N) and The Tribune (T) - they had bought the previous week.

Some of the results are shown in the Venn diagram given that
    (1) 20 people bought The News
    (2) 23 people bought The Journal
    (3) 10 people bought The Journal and The Tribune
    (4) 8 people bought The Tribune only.

Given that there 40 people in the survey who bought The Tribune or The Journal or both, fine the value of x.

    J ∩ N = 2
    J ∩ N ∩ T = 4
    N ∩ T = x

Looks like there is something wrong with the question.

    J ∩ N = 2
    J ∩ N ∩ T = 4

There can't be 4 that bought all three but only 2 that bought Journal and the News. Are you sure it is written like that?

Yes I'm pretty sure. I looked at the answers and x = 9, but I don't understand how you get 9.

Have you a picture of it?

Em we can't see the pictures with those "user" links.

Use a site like Imgur and then use the add image function of Boards.ie.

Just copy the link and embed it using the add image feature or just post the URL. Plain and simple.

Ah yeah, forgot that you're a new user. You need to have done at least 50 posts to be able to post URLs.

You press this that you see in the picture below (though I'm guessing now that you're using a phone?). Or you can just add at the start of the link and at the end of the link.

So you will need to do 50 posts before doing this I think also.
