Alternative to pipe stat for boiler stove

I have a Henley Achill insert stove and the pipe thermostat that the plumber fitted doesn't work very well because it is nearly 100cm from the stove itself. He said it cannot be fitted any closer because it is too big to fit in the hole in the chimney breast where the feed emerges from the stove. Anyone know of a narrow thermostat sensor that is narrow enough to squeeze in the hole, close the the actual boiler. At the moment I have to set the thermostat down to approx 20c to prevent the stove from boiling. The stat turns the pump on.

    Tks,
    Owen.
