leak as indicated by Irish Water

    Several weeks ago, I received a letter stating that I had a leak on my property. Within this letter, I was informed that remedial works would be conducted under the First Fix Scheme. I checked my property running appliances (internally and externally) – there were none visible. I contacted Irish water and I was issued with a reference number. On a follow up call, I quoted the original reference number, went through the same question process and was given a new reference number.
    Finally, after about month, an engineer called late one evening (as they were working in the area). They surveyed my property to listen for leaks and stated that there were no leaks on my property apart from what appeared as a leak at the meter, which was installed by irish water contractors - (I must also point out that an existing meter and pressure reduction valve were removed during this installation process)
    The engineer present on the day informed me that this was an Irish water issue, as it appears that a faulty meter was installed. I enquired as to how long it would take to solvwe this issue and I was told 6 weeks which by my calculation will be sometime next year!)
    I’m not out to bash Irish water. I have never been against paying the rates – after all, sinking a well costs money, pumping the water out of the ground cost money, pumping it all over the country in outdated patchwork piping costs money. I just want this leak fixed. By the estimates I was given and by my own calculations, there is several thousand of cubic meters of water is being lost needlessly.
    Themost annoying part of my dilemma is, the fact that a few Kms up the road, there is a contractor residing who for years repaired a lot of leaks for the local council but for this current issue to be resolved, I have to wait for someone to come from the far end of the country to fix the issue!!!!
    Something is really wrong here!!!

    I also received a notification from Irish Water on Feb 6 regarding a leak, and the "First Fix" option. I Contacted Irish Water via the online contact form (and a couple of weeks later by email also), to query this. I have taken my own readings and the water usage rates I have calculated do not tally with Irish Water's finding. I have asked for the actual readings and dates (which triggered the letter) to be shared with me, but have not received a response. Would you be able to chase this up? I can provide all details required.

    I am fully happy to have the Free survey, but I want to have the meter readings checked again prior to "using up" that option.

    Would you mind sending the following details by PM and I can follow up on this for you with our First Fix Team?

    - Full Name;
    - Address;
    - WPRN, as stated on the letter; and
    - Confirm if you have an inside stop valve and have completed all the First Fix Free checks, outlined in the letter.

    I have raised the issue of the "Continuous flow" alert from Irish Water which triggered the usual "Leak Notice" letter. After a lot of back and forth I finally got the meter readings from Irish Water. Long story short, My water consumption is exactly the national average (as per Irish Water's consumption report). These are available on their website and I can't post links (yet) as I am a "new"user.

    Most recent report gives a house of two adults / two children average (per Irish Water) is 122,000 litres per year (13.9 litres per hour).....This is almost exactly where I am at.

    The problem is that Irish Water send the letter to everybody whose consumption is above 6 litres per hour!....and it appears that they will get around to everybody with these misleading Leak warnings eventually.

    I totally agree with the idea of identifying people who are wasting water, but this is gradually  discrediting the entire process!

    I have asked several times for a coherent response, but it is a bit like talking to a machine!
    I have sent several PMs at this stage, but am getting nowhere, so am reverting back to the public forum to ask ....Please can I have a coherent and sensible response!
