I've copied a bit of the post from reddit to pick the mind of boards collected wisdom. My faithful Acer has let me down this morning.

Acer Aspire Nitro VN7-591(speccy link below)
Nice matt 1920x1080 screen that's now dead.

    Speccy Link

    Description of problem

Dead laptop screen.Apparently no power to screen. Not recognised as a display in windows (in either the graphical display selection or device manager). No visible new damage to casing (several wear and tear scuffs over the years)

    Cause/Steps to recreate the issue

Turn on laptop; no power to built in screen.
What I've tried so far to resolve the issue

Laptop fully functional through HDMI. Jiggling about the display at different angles to see if it will turn itself on. About to crack open the case to further troubleshoot; any other ideas?

It's also well out of warranty, so I'm on my own here.

If you shine a torch onto the screen can you see anything?

Nothing. I don't think there's a feed been driven or power to the built in display. It's not been recognised by the PC. It's as if someone plugged it out.

    Update.

I've disconnected all cables to the screen and reset them. Nothing.

Is there a practicable way to test the motherboard-display cable? I think it's the 30 pin cable.

I'm not aware of one unfortunately. Well not easily.

If its a LCD screen with a backlight you should see about 700v AC on the inverter output.
Might be worth trying it with hdd and optical drive if it has one disconnected
You can get another screen cable, but they're not cheap. Or if you could find an identical machine, you could try your cable in that.

your best bet is to probably bring it to a repair specialist.
not sure who could recommend a good one.
search ebay for replacement screens and/or other bits.
