Recommend a Ladies Watch for Daily Wear

Looking for recommendations for Ladies watches for that event that occurs in December that I cannot mention:rolleyes: as to early.

Something for daily use and nothing to fancy. I like the Fossil watches but have not bought one in a while and I have not checked out any of the jewellers around town yet

So anyone got any recommendations?

In general ladies prefer a quartz watch over an automatic. Have a look in Kildare village. One brand that have very slim watches is Skagen, had a quick google and they're in Debenhams.

Mondaine make nice, cute and slightly playful women's watches. I bought one for my wife and she really likes it, wears it a lot. They are a very reputable Swiss brand however the unique designs may not suit; you can see the range in Weirs to get an idea.

Certina are in Arnotts and are another Swiss make that do high quality watches, again depending on your choice of style, they usually have simple elegant stuff like this:

Both brands will also be in Kildare village by the way, and likely cheaper there, so I agree with Blue above, it would be worth taking a trip out there if possible.

If it's a daily wearer then quartz's "pick up and go" ability may be less important...

Each lady has their own aesthetic taste but I find that ladies more often embrace the jewellery part of watches (rather than necessarily all too interested in the mechanical intricacies e.g. if it's a cam shifted chronograph movement or a column wheel one etc). So gold accents, mother of pearl dials, diamond markers etc can be a tasteful addition to a ladies watch.

One other brand I look at for ladies watches in particular is Cartier - they have the pedigree in both jewellery making and watchmaking.

are a joy to wear - the movements aren't going to set the world ablaze, but you're paying for the bracelet and design (and name of course).

...like I said - if it's a daily wearer then:
1. consider if it's worth splashing out if you know she isn't going to have a lot of different watches to wear.

2. consider an automatic watch - might lead her to further interest in mechanical watches - if worn daily then very little chance of needing to set the time often.

3. test out the bracelet for comfort - my wife's Seamaster rice bracelet feels quite a bit better than my Speedmaster for example. So make sure she'll like the bracelet especially if it's a one watch woman you're buying for - see my bit on Cartier above.

One thing to be aware of is that EU online shops won't have custom duties/VAT to pay but the US/non-EU shops may result in you paying for the duties (adds on about 20% of the price).

Actually with ladies - I've found they can enjoy the process of picking out a watch themselves - so another idea is a present of "watch voucher" (not an actual gift certificate or anything like that - could just be a card) - and then you guys go and pick the watch out together. This way she gets input on what kind of watch she likes (maybe all of our suggestions do not match her personal tastes at all). I know I'm very particular on my watches - if someone gifted me a Panerai I'd be exceedingly touched by the gesture but wouldn't necessarily have picked that brand of watch.

And another thing to keep in mind is us people on the watch forum generally like a particular kind of watch - that is watches with innovation/pedigree. It is entirely possible that someone not into watches as watches can prefer a nice design and famous name. My sister loves her Longines watch but her friends in college would have been much more interested in a Michael Kors/Dior/Gucciwatch etc. Horses for courses


But to answer your question - chrono24.com is like ebay for watches - jomashop is reputable (but US based I think) - massdrop is another US based site - rakuten is Japanese ebay/Amazon.

But I would really recommend taking her to a physical brick and mortar shop so she can try on the watches and decide what style she might like.

I bought herself a Skagen last year and she is delighted with it. Stylish modern watches, a bit different from the norm. Got it in Blanchardstown, one of the jewellers in there is a Skagen agent. Sorry can't remember which one, but it won't take you long to go in and ask them.

Had to just do a sneaky run down to the bed room so I could grab it and look up which it is
