Have my auld BMW tourer ('05 e61) up for sale, small money - under 3k.

Getting a LOT of time wasters on done deal sending messages via the site

A few asking for my VIN? Why...

And Is it unsafe to give it out?

    TIA

I wouldn't give it to some random texters. They are more than welcome to come view the car and compare the VIN on the car/logbook with that on their history report.

With the vin you can get the full spec list on the car.

If you aren’t comfortable giving it out, do it yourself and email/ text a photo of the results.

But why would they want that (full spec list)? Just curious...

    Take the message option off.

List all extras, engine type, chain driven, a/c etc. Etc.

Put on at the end reasonable offers but no sales calls or silly offers.

To see what options are on the car that possibly haven’t been disclosed on the ad.

It's not like a VIN is some kind of secret.
There's a publicly available website, when upon entering Irish reg number it returns VIN number.

Agree with CiniO, you can get VIN from reg plate.

BMW specs can vary massively, I always run a VIN check before ringing about a car to make sure I'm happy with the spec rather than wasting sellers time.

They just want to check the full spec of the car and it's something i do myself. With my last car i asked the dealer to email the vin code so i could compare specs with a similar car i was looking at. Nothing wrong with it at all OP.

Any chance the website that provides VINs based on registration plates could be shared? :)
I know that's something you can get on motorcheck, but those checks are not cheap.

If it comes back live I'll let you know.

Any BMW VIN decoder I know just needs the last 7 digits. I've never come up against any obstacle from a vendor when looking for that.

What are the other options for checking a used car's history other than VIN,
NCTS? all it shows when I input my own reg is the next test date but no other details like last test (maybe a test out of date on a car shows that?).

What other free options are there for checking a cars history online?
finance? write offs? (Ireland and UK).

I say free as it would eliminate the need to pay for a check for every car that might be of interest and help narrow the field. If I was buying a car, Id pay for a full check.
