    I know there are arguments against this but isn't it the case that america are deeply indebted to them

    Depends what your metric is.
    On paper its true that China has a huge position on Treasury bills. This is actually problematic as China are at the whim of the US FED on interest rates.

    Also, the Chinese economy is actually a basket case hidden behind a command economy. The debt in the banking system has grown 2X versus GDP. If the US imposed trade tariffs this would collapse china quickly.
