Would anyone know if these ever expire? I have an unused one at home which says use by date Dec 2015 but was told it is still valid. Just wondering can it be kept indefinitely until needed

They tend to be valid a few months beyond the date, but it's nearly 2 years now. You can try, but I don't think it will work.

They might exchange it in head office.

Some people bought a good few of the family rambler when DB done a discount price on them for 1916. Those tickets wouldn't scan beyond the expiry date. They beep invalid and show expired.

I rang Dublin Bus and they said it will expire at the end of the calendar year it is first used which is great because I don't intend using it until January

That sounds suspect, what it you try using it in 10 years time.

Leap Cards are only valid for about 5-7 years total, as the technology and the ability to crack the system is expected to have changed by then.

So a Leap card that was bought when they first came out would no longer be valid?

I was a part of the pilot group and my initial card had an issue date of May 2011 (last four digits on front) and was valid until May 2018 according to leapcard.ie but I later got a photo one so stopped using it.

I have an earlyish card myself (Transport 21, NDP and original TFI logos on the back) and judging by the last four digits, it's from August 2011. The expiry date actually extended to August 2023 when I enabled auto topup on it, it was previously 2018 I believe.

Not really relevant nowadays but I once had the old magstripe Travel 90s and tried to use one that was a month out of date, it was rejected.
