Market value 08 bmw e92 320d

Considering selling my own car- 2008 e92 320d - and wondering what the market value is, plus, whether cars at this age, with this engine (n47) are in demand or moving at all?

I see one on adverts asking 8495 in galway, 233kms and nct to jan. Mentions timing chain done. Is that asking realistic? Its an m sport with leather.

Mine has less than half that mileage, 65k miles, is m sport with leather and has t chain done also (2k job). Would the lower mileage make any difference to value? How much of a disincentive or turn off is the n47 stigma?

Honestly, that ad mentions any reasonable offer considered so guessing the market is very quiet on that car. Given pcp deals, sterling/imports, is an 08 320d basically at a floor price now due to its age and with that engine are prospective buyers not interested?

I no longer drive to work so the car is essentially a weekend car (doing c 4k kms a year lately) but it is still depreciating some amount and costing me tax and insurance and servicing. Luckily i dont need to sell so trying to weigh up what id get for it now versus just continuing to keep it as a weekend car.

If it was newer and worth more id definitely sell since i dont really need a car now but trying to guage if its worth so little now that its worth more to me to keep it until it dies...

What way do boardsies see the market on this type of car at this age? Id imagine a clean 320d m sport with nct always has a value so long as it can be insured... Is it basically at that point now? 3-5k???

It's worth well more than 3-5k. Sounds like the other car is on the money IMO, 320d M-Sport with the chain done is still a very desirable car. If it has an NCT, take some nice photos of it and it won't be long about shifting.

Can get a decent 06 petrol BMW msport (523i) nowadays for about 2-3k. They are on the floor completely. I would have thought an 08 diesel coupe m sport would be worth a goid bit more. Maybe 5-6k kind of range. I'd pay that if I was in the coupe market.

Is the other car is on the money at 8495 and is there any premium for 130k fewer kms on the clock or not really?? Id imagine theres no chance anyone paying 10k for what is essentially a 10yo car?

Other car looks clean and tidy to me but advertised as any reasonable offer considered so im just wondering is the market for those cars really limited? Its at the 10yo mark now so do insurers load them at that vintage?

5-8k just seems so low for what is a lot of car. Particularly a well minded example.

The 06 523i is a 6cyl 2.5petrol no? So a lot of tax to be paid on that? I know its a 6cyl n.a. petrol but would be costly (in cash terms) to run really so would figure thats why the value of that is minimal at 12yo old.

Say an 08 e92 320d is worth c. 6-8k now, would it be fair to expect itd lose 2k a year from now on, assuming its running well with nct etc?

Reason i ask is if id only get 6k or so now id prob hang on to it rather than let it go...

Yeah that's why I think the diesels post 08 are worth more, but not much more to be honest. Always pressure from younger cars losing value pushing older stuff to the floor. It's getting on to 10 years old now following the rule I like to guide by 50% loss every 3 years which is ballpark correct

    50k new
    25k after 3 years
    12.5k after 6 years
    6.25k after 9 years m

Calculate what it would cost to import a similar car from the UK, then reduce it by about 10% for a private sale here.

Looks to be similar at 7k gbp. With gbp at 0.9 and deducting a 10% margin you comr back to 8k euro ignoring vrt.

Vrt is 1.7k so it comes back to 9.7k all in.

    Seems more like it, no?

I'm talking 10% reduction on the "landed" price including VRT.

So £7k is roughly €7.8k + 1.7k VRT = €9.5k less 10% so roughly €8.5kish. You might get a little more for the low mileage and evidence of the timing chain replaced. I'd start off by asking 8,995 and see what interest you get. If you get nothing then drop the price a bit every few weeks until someone inquires.

    Thanks Bazz,

    Makes sense at 8,995.

At that money it does seem a lot of car to run say for five years, tax x 5 = 1.5k. Buy for 8.5k and its 2k a year plus insurance, servicing and fuel.

Ive done the chain, are there any other typical failures i might expect at this vintage?

I think ill just hold it as a weekend car to be honest. Not really worth it to me to sell. Ill need new tyres and a service soon but beyond that not expecting it to cost me anything.

Its about to go ten years old. I reckon it would achieve 7-8k. There is only one way to find out. Or you simply put up a minimum price you would accept and say thats it, not open to offers. Hanging onto it if I dont achieve that figure....

I sold my very well kept 2008 318D last March for a little over €6k.

It's not a coupe, of course, and it was SE not a msport. I did not have the chain done as it never gave me a problem. It had about 120k miles on the clock but had a full service history (BMW for first 5 years and reputable indy thereafter).

I was happy to get the price. It's not the same car as yours but it might give you some insight as to 3 series prices.

    GLWS!!

Can you put up a link to the car when ready, may be interested.

there would be quite a difference between a 318d saloon SE v the Op car. If it wasnt M sport, it would be worth at least a third less in my opinion and very hard to shift, unless you literally give it away...

Yeah it is an m sport, with leather, elec seats (not sure if theyre standard or not). Surprisingly there are a few advertised with non leather interior. Personally, i wouldnt consider one without leather, and i think the car is so much better in m sport than not.

The 318d e90 sale does give an idea of demand and indicative pricing though. Like you say, m sport, e92 and 320d should all pull the price up a bit. The mileage at 65k miles is also half what the 318d had.

I know a low miler isnt ideal if the car has been doing short town runs day in day out but in my case it hasnt. I bought a low mileage example in 2012, put up a healthy 15k a year of mostly m1 to airport commute over next two years but then a move into a job in the city put me back on public transport so has left the car mostly parked up monday to friday and used on weekends. The very odd day i drive into work but mainly its a weekend car.

I actually checked there and ive only done 2.5k miles over past 9 months!! Im slightly shocked ive done so little which is why im on the fence as to sell or keep it.

Honestly believe it would be a bargain to a new owner since it is such a low mileage and cared for example, but flip side of that is i feel id nearly be giving it away and should just hold it myself for another five years as a weekend car. I think the e92still looks great, has aged well, and its a great car to drive.

Maybe i should just change jobs so i can have it as a daily driver again!!

You cannot really compare E90 prices to E92 prices unless your talking about M3 cars. The E92 cost a hefty premium over the equivalent E90, the E92 is also a coupe which has a higher desirability over the saloon variant which has a bearing on resale values. M Sport will nearly always be more desireable to a SE too. An E90 SE is like chalk and cheese compared to an E92 M Sport.

Where did I compare an e90 to an e92??

I was trying to give the OP an indication of real world prices of a 3 series actually sold. I actually emphasise the differences between the two vehicles.

    GLWS OP.
