Jean Pierre pocket watch

    Hello all.

I was hoping someone here in the know would be able to advise me if I'm going in the right direction with a gift I hope to give my husband to be. I wanted to give him something nice he can wear with his suit, but also as a nice momento of the day. I'm fairly sure he will get more use out of than just the day itself.

I suppose I want to know if you were to receive such a thing would you be please with it? (For those that can appreciate a pocket watch).

The one I've my eye on is a Jean Pierre mechanical double hunter full skeleton in a yellow gold. Now I do realise these things can be down to personal taste, so what I will say is I know he does appreciate the mechanics of such things, and would have a preference for yellow gold. To go with it I was going to buy a double Albert. I've broken the link to this because I can't post images, but this is her -

Has anyone any thoughts on this pocket watch, or indeed any other suggestions in terms of make etc? I'm open to suggestions. Budget is a couple/few hundred I guess.

    Thanks in advance :)

Rejoice in the awareness of feeling stupid, for that’s how you end up learning new things. If you’re not aware you’re stupid, you probably are.

Couldn’t see myself wearing a pocket watch, but still think it’d be a fantastic thing to get as a memento of the day.

Thank you for replying, and I'm sure you're right. Unless I hear otherwise here (regarding that makes quality) I'm going to order the one I've mentioned above within the week. The make itself seems to be reputable, but I was hoping someone here might have one of their own. I thought it might be nice to have a short engraving with our wedding date on it too.

I don't profess to know very much about pocket watches, hence the thread. But what I do understand is there seems to be the three faces. Plain, half skeleton and full skeleton. The full skeleton seems to be more desirable, and by extension more expensive. What I can't get my head around is the mechanisms and which is preferred generally.

I can't imagine it's something husband to be will use all the time, perhaps if wearing something dressy. Im actually going to pick up a stand for it because that way he can have it in view and it doesn't get thrown to the back of a cupboard :)

Notwithstanding the actual brand, a gift like that would never be unwelcome even to non watch fans. The fact that it's a wedding gift and such a beautiful piece and thoughtful makes it a winner in my book.

Thank you for your reply, most helpful. Really looking forward to giving him the watch now :)
