'Britain has another world champion' - Katie Taylor

    They're at at it again!

Ireland hasn't been part of Britain for 100 years. You'd think someone born on a different island/jurisdiction wouldn't be hard to get mixed up with. I need to talk to Joe about this.

Not for the first time, a prominent Irish person has been claimed by Britain as one of their own.
This time, Sky Sports presenter Jo Wilson was the guilty party, declaring earlier today that 'Britain has another world champion' when teeing up a question on the exploits of Katie Taylor.
The Olympic gold medalist won her first title in the professional game last Saturday night in Cardiff, and despite her well-known achievements with the Irish amateur boxing team, Wilson still made the slip-up.

"We can't let you go without talking about one of the undercard performances, one of the performances of the night - Britain has another world champion, Katie Taylor," the presenter said.

Ffs get over it, slip of the tongue. Individual presenters make the mistake all the time.

Where's the post about all the presenters who got it correct and said "Ireland not Britain has a new champion"? No? Didn't think so

It's a bit like the time I was asked who my favourite American singer was and I said Shania Twain.

You definitely deserved a slap for that one, just not for the reason you got it.

No big deal. You can't legislate for ignorance and you have to listen to thunder. Move on.

I wonder of the Indo deliberately write articles like that, knowing full well someone will post a link to it in After Hours?

Remember when another Sky presenter referred to the All Ireland championship as the All England championship.

She got thrown off as the prestigious All England Badminton championships were happening at the time.

It will be like Bridge of Spies.
We'll give them back Rory and we get Katie back.

Don't think Rory ever considered himself to be with 'us' in the first place.

Here we claimed O'Bama and named a petrol station after him, it's the pot calling the President black!

I think he really should have been honoured with a County Council aggregate yard myself.

Katie's father is English for starters and more importantly she boxes under Matchroom boxing, so it is a title for British boxing.

Reckon he’d make a believable Katie though?

My friend told me she had just taken up weightlifting as a new hobby. I asked her to send me a video of her snatch so that I could check that her form was good.
I still don't know whether her technique is correct......but at least I was able to advise her to get a Brazilian.

Its really time to lay off the British. If they have an new world champion in Taylor, then fair play. Cut out the begrudgery and let them enjoy their triumph. Ireland is very quick to crow whenever it wins something in sports.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 3,647 ✭✭✭lazybones32

Yeah...when Katie thanks God and Jesus for her victory, many Irish are complaining about her and feeling embarassed by it. When the Brits claim her, those same folk are up in arms again.

    She's after getting better-looking of late imo...wouldn't pinch her @rse though. #brokenjaw

I've seen both. One is an actual stinker, the other is a hygiene thing I suppose Joe.

That's why he's her ex-coach. At least Katie has a beautiful accent.

Sky News are a bunch of ****ing trolls and you not only took the bait; you jumped out of the sea, landed in the basket and smashed your own head off the brick on the way. Well done!

Everything I don't like is either woke or fascist - possibly both - pick one.

What are the odds, Britain has a female world champion boxer, and her names also Katie Taylor, that's mad. I wonder are they related?

They're laying claim to a chunk of our land folks. Lets not take our eye off the ball like.

Anyway, we took Shane MacGowan off them and they're not getting him back either.

It was no accident. It was a deliberate insult to a great Irishwoman. A horrible insulting thing to call a person British when they’re not. An apology should be issued immediately.

How do you know that? Haven't heard any complaints from Katie. I'd keep quiet about it, if I was you. The RoI isn't exactly shy when it comes to laying claim to sports stars, actors etc from other countries. Aside from that, she boxes for Matchroom boxing, which is British.

You can have her. When she drones on and on, and on and on and on, we'll just remark, "remember that guy on Boards? The Brexit, DUP, EDL, BNP guy. He's even more boring then Katie Taylor."

How could any individual be more boring than Katie Taylor?
