Cube mountain bike for 12 year old

Hi folks.

My son is asking Santa for a mountain bike. He has it in his head that he wants a Cube bike with rockshox shock absorbers.

I'm looking on adverts for second hand bikes so need to be sure that I know a little before I decide to go see bikes that might be the right fitOne of his pals has a 17 inch Cube Aim.

The bike would mostly be used around the roads, trying to do wheelies etc, but maybe a little bit of off road stuff if I rent a bike for myself up in Ticknock or Ballinastoe, or he heads out with mates & another parent up there.

So I was thinking he'll only need rear suspension, right? Is the Cube Aim worth looking at? I may have to stretch for a new one if I can't get a really good condition used one.

Any suggestions where to buy for new or used from bricks and mortar only would be appreciated.

Cycle superstore in tallaght is the one that springs to mind that stocks CUBE.

For the likes of ticknock and ballinastoe you won't need a rear shock, having a front fork. For mostly road use and the occasional trip round ballinastoe nearly any mountain bike would be ok....as long as the brakes are decent....prefereably hydraulic disks

Ringing around the shops it is remarkable how they are all quoting the exact same price for the version with the hydraulic brakes. Remarkable!

Thanks Eamonn, they are indeed lovely bikes. The Cube Aim Pro is €519 in all the shops but these two have the rockshox that seem so popular.

Does anyone know if "RockShox XC 30 TK Coil, 100mm, Remote Lockout" are actually any better than "SR Suntour XCT, 100mm"?

I would go for the Rockshox fork, without hesitation.

If you have a good eye and know what you are looking at 2nd hand will have great value.

For 500 you can get this (wrong size way too big and a proper off road bike) but just an example; really nice groupset, good wheels, pedals forks etc.

I have just talked him out of him needed rear suspension, took since August
